M.M. Piano Performance, Emporia State University, KS
I’ve been teaching piano for over 20 years. My purpose is to share music joyfully and creatively with others. I accept students of all ages, levels and abilities, who are drawn to music and have a desire to learn. It is my aim as a teacher to kindle that initial spark, and to fan the flames into joyful, confident, musical expression at all levels of instruction.
All lessons are 40 minutes, allowing time to supplement piano playing with music theory games and percussion instruments to enhance musical understanding. I try to give each student a thorough grounding in musical principles, and then follow their interests to find music of all different styles that excites and motivates them.
I also have many years of experience teaching early childhood music and movement classes. From the mid 80s and 90s I worked in public radio, hosting music shows and producing arts features. I am currently a pianist and Music Coordinator at the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Hillsborough.
